Ogún Afrobeat are Spain’s Afrobeat pioneers — a bold, boundary-breaking project born in Madrid and led by Nigerian drummer, percussionist, and vocalist Akinsola. More than a band, they are a multicultural collective, uniting musicians from Nigeria, Cuba, Spain, Colombia, Morocco, and Italy.
Together they create a sound that both honors the roots of Afrobeat — including highlife, fuji, and Yoruba rhythms – and pushes the genre into new creative directions by seamlessly weaving in funk, jazz, Gnawa, nu-soul, electro, and even a touch of flamenco.
Through their music the project is also deeply committed to cultural dialogue, migration narratives, and musical collaboration across borders. By creating a space where traditions connect, evolve, and find common ground, Ogún Afrobeat embodies the spirit of integration and exchange, turning every performance into a meeting point of cultures. Also expressed by their many collaborations and invetees on stage. Renowned guest artists include among others Dele Sosimi, the musical director, singer, and keyboarder of Fela Kuti, Spanish hip-hop pioneer Frank T, Ethiopian singer Sara Habasha, Afromeño Founder Gecko Turner, Jamiroquai's percussionist Solá Akinbolá and renowned flutist Javier Paxariño.
On stage, the band is a true force of nature—as one concertgoer captured it perfectly: “They are a pure dose of joy and dancing.”

Their latest album UNITE is a journey that pushes musical boundaries while staying deeply connected to the roots of Afrobeat and Nigerian music. This time, we move East, weaving in Ethiopian and Middle Eastern influences, and West, drawing from the rhythms of the African diaspora in the Caribbean. You can also hear the pulse of Afro-American music—jazz, funk, and R&B—blending seamlessly into the mix. The result? A nonstop dance celebration.
The album features an incredible lineup of guest artists, including Nigerian Afrobeat legend Dele Sosimi, renowned Spanish woodwind player Javier Paxariño, Ethiopian singer Sara Habasha, Iranian multi-instrumentalist Kaveh Sarvarian, and Cuban vocalists Alejandro Gutiérrez and Carla Vicens.
KOKO IROYIN—which means “the main point” in Yoruba—is the result of two years of live shows and studio sessions, blending traditional African rhythms like Apala, Fuji, Gnawa, and Highlife with the energy of funk, hip-hop, and jazz.
The album unfolds over eight tracks of unstoppable grooves, rich brass melodies echoing ancient African choirs, and powerful rhythms that invite you to dance without pause.
It’s all about the details—the horns speaking like a choir, the talking drum driving the beat, the guitar’s crisp lines adding color, and the keys bringing in a touch of funk. Featuring guest artists like Frank T, Senegalese singer Seydina Mboup, American vocalist Aqeel, and Moroccan musicians Mohammed El Bouzidi and Bilal Artiach,
KOKO IROYIN is afrobeat for the 21st century—rooted in Yoruba and Nigerian traditions but always moving forward.

The songs of this energetic album are so wonderful in their self-assured timbre, funky feel with tight baritone sax riffs. But listen for yourself and discover the innovative, fiery mix of this widely exploited West African Afrobeat.
What fans say:
Ogún Afrobeat is one of the best Afrobeat Bands I ever heard with great interplay, driven by bass and drum. The hornsection plays tight, funky and jazzy, like "Tower of Power". Live on Stage must be the Real Experience!

Last night was one of those nights that remind you why you love live music. One of my favorite bands of the national scene returned to Café Berlin, and seeing them is like being at home: the place, the people, the vibe... everything fits. ... Thanks to this band for reminding us that live music is one of the best gifts we have.
